A great book for the overall message as well as a resource tool to use throughout the years. The message is simple- praise the Lord for Who He is not what He gives you. This will change your outlook in whatever circumstance you find yourself in. The Psalms are filled with this- but Stormie explains the concept well
This book seriously changed my life. I have been a believer for many years, but my tendency toward fear and worry robbed me of joy and made my prayer life ineffective. Instead of wringing my hands as I pray and telling God how I think He needs to answer, now I pray with hands raised and a joy in my heart that comes from fully trusting what God is doing. I read it for the first time six years ago, but it is a resource that I continue to go to whenever I need to be reminded to praise instead of worry. Absolutely full of Scripture. I have given this book to many people, and I am grateful to God for it.
I have read parts of this book, long ago. I have wanted my own copy ever since. Well explained, many references & examples. Gives a solid guide to creating a meaningful prayer. Highly recommend.
I'm a huge fan of Omartin's books, and as expected, this did not disappoint. I made a point to retype out the prayers (aka praise) section at the end of each chapter though, as if I were writing a letter to God. This made the the chapters more personal to me, and kick started a stronger form of praise to God. If you are looking for books that will encourage a more personal and REAL relationship with Your heavenly Father, I highly recommend this text.

Books - every one of them gets a 5 star rating from me - there's nothing like the power of prayer and this book and all the others opens yours eyes on things and ways to pray that you don't even think about - every "Mom to Be" gets "The Power of a Praying Parent" from me and I go to every bridal shower with "The Power of a Praying Wife" as the gift I give - if you don't have them - what are you waiting for??????
Reading it now. Wonderful prayers to read to God. Great Scriptures that ago along with it. And Scriptures to further read to deepen your understanding of God's word, and questions to answer. Also makes you look inside yourself, and brings things to the surface. Writing things out on paper as she suggests really helps you see things you never realized before.
I don't usually write reviews, but I stumbled across this book last year at the library and I was going through a rough time in my life. When I started to praise God instead of seeing only the bad things, I became so much happier and now, even a year later, I can't help but praise God for His awesomeness! I especially do this when I'm having a rough day (like when my car broke down). It's definitely a challenge in those moments, but it can help sooo much! I've bought many copies of this and passed them on to friends, it's not preachy or hard to read and has a chapter for everyone. I especially like chapter 16...what prayers to say when you are troubled by negative thoughts or emotions. If you are even reading this, you must be somewhat interested, so I recommend you just buy it. There are lots of cheap, used copies on Amazon and that's where I buy mine.
A friend told me about Stormie's books a year ago. I've read several since and am amazed at what each of them do for my understanding of who God is and my understanding of who I am. Really helpful. Super easy to read, and yet some very deep insights.I'm a middle aged guy, and I did have an impression that maybe her books were aimed more at women, so I was a little skeptical to start. All I can say is the books that I've read, including this one, have had superb insights. The theology seems sound, but more than "just" abstract theology, this book is all about living in a godly way - how to do that. Highly recommended.
