I read this collection as each individual story was published, and even though the last one was published awhile ago, I can safely say that this is one of my favorite series of all time!Crow: 5 starsI absolutely loved this story! It is well-written with well-developed characters and a fast paced plot. Crow was complex and hard with a loving core. Mack was tough, strong and sassy. I loved her and Crow's relationship. It wasn't insta-love like so many stories these days, their relationship was given time to develop. They had to make hard choices, but everything they did was what was right for them at the time. No cheesiness here.Reaper: 5 starsWow, just wow is the first word I say after and during reading Reaper by Ashleigh Zavarelli. It's the 2nd book of the Boston Underworld series, and it's even better than Crow, if that is even possible. It's Ronan (Reaper) and Sasha's story and it's an amazing one. Ronan, known as Reaper for obvious reasons, is part of the same Irish mobster syndicate, the MacKenna Syndicate, that Lachlan (Crow) is part of. In fact, they are best friends, brothers even. Ronan's a cold blooded killer who has had feelings for Sasha, a dancer at one of their clubs, for years now. Sasha returns Ronan's feelings, but their relationship is complicated because Sasha belongs to Blaine, the boss of this part of the MacKenna Syndicate. The thing I loved most about Reaper is that Ronan is not the typical hitman, if you will, or even the typical mafia guy in romances these days. He may be cold blooded, and drop dead gorgeous, but he is also almost childlike in his inexperience with women. He also lacks good communications skills but there's a reason for that. Reading his backstory about how and why he came to be the man he is now is heartbreaking. But as with most of us humans, he is not without his redeeming qualities, and Sasha brings those redeeming qualities out in him. They really are soulmates. His and Sasha's story is filled with palpable tension, suspense and passion. If you are interested in an atypical mafia story, you really should read Reaper.Ghost: 5 starsI honestly didn't think it would be possible for Ghost to be better than Crow and Reaper, but by God is it better, it surpasses them both. Ghost is Talia and Alexei's story. It's set it in the same world as Crow and Reaper, the Russian/Irish underworld inhabited by both the Russian mob and the Irish mob who have a tentative agreement of peace. Talia is the friend Mack was looking for in Crow. She's been sold by a sleazebag guy named Dmitri she had met and decided to vacation with. She's now living her days in a daze, chained to a wall, only alive for the use of Arman (the man who bought her) and his associates. She's become compliant and deadened inside. She had emotional and mental issues even before she was sold, but now she's even more damaged. Alexei is suffering through as many mental and emotional hangups as Talia, he has just as many inner demons, thanks to an absolutely horrible father. Alexei is the councilor to Viktor, the head of the Vor, the Russian mob. He monitors their gambling operations and is Viktor's second in command. He's called Ghost because he can get into any computer system and exit without a trace. He is also the man Mack asked to help find Talia. And find Talia he does. But, he has a plan for her that he doesn't tell anyone, including Talia.Their journey is twisted, a little dark, and seriously heartbreaking. Talia and Alexei are both intensely damaged people, but in each other they seem to find some peace. That peace lasts until Alexei breaks her heart into a million pieces by believing she betrayed him. My heart was breaking along with Talia's when he rejected her. Thank God A. Zavarelli redeemed Alexei (and herself lol) by making him realize his mistake and go try to get his woman back. He goes on rage fueled spree to find his woman and the people who betrayed them. He is one man no intelligent person would want to cross. Each book I read in this underworld series I get more and more invested. Each book gets better, darker and even sexier. I can't wait for the next one!Saint: 5 starsA. Zavarelli has done it again - taken the world of mafia love and dumped it on its rear. She's the queen of romantic, dark suspense and Saint is proof of that. I have been waiting for Scarlett and Rory's story and I'm so glad I finally got to read it. Scarlett is even more messed up than I could have ever imagined. She's Satan, and Rory is the Saint, but they're so deliciously, twistedly perfect together. I can't say that Scarlett is my favorite heroine, but she is certainly one fierce woman. She's smart, tough and strong. Rory is just as tough and strong, he's more than her match, he's her soulmate.Scarlett is damaged, yes, but it's certainly not her fault. She was brutally terrorized years ago by her boyfriend and his friends, and since then, she has been looking for revenge. Well, she certainly gets it, and she uses Rory to get it. That they ended up falling for each other along the way is inevitable, though, and so perfect. No one else could have honestly put up with Scarlett, nor have loved her the way Rory does. She tries like crazy, though, to push Rory away, time and again, when she realizes she has feelings for him, but Rory isn't about to let her get away with it. The man is persistent and has serious staying power. He was determined to save her, from herself, and everyone else. He's just about the perfect hero in my eyes.I'm now impatiently waiting for Storm and Booker's story, it can't come soon enough for me!!Thief: 5 starsIf I haven't said it yet (I know I have, though), I'll say it again - no one does dark and twisted like Ashleigh Zavarelli, and her Boston Underworld series is one of my all time favorites in all of fiction. Her mafia heroes are hot and sexy, no doubt, but they're not just that, they're so much more. They're dark, they've got questionable moral codes, they're twisted, but they're so layered that truly peeling back all their layers is impossible. I thought Reaper (Ronan) and Alexei (Ghost) were not to be bested in my heart, but Niko just may have usurped them.Niko is part of the Vory (Russian mafiya), he's the brother of Alexei (Ghost), but he's quite different. He's not a Ghost, he's a Thief."I am a thief at heart."He too answers to Viktor, the pakhan, the leader, but he's lately been distracted by acquiring something that's not quite art, no, that something is a collateral owed to the Vory by Manuel Valentini, so he's taken Manuel's daughter, Tanaka, as leverage, until Manuel makes good on his debt.Tanaka is not like the women of Niko's world, or even like most of the women in her Italian mafia world. No, she's much different. She's a seemingly spoiled princess who's not, she's prisoner in her father's world with only one outlet - her dancing. She's a graceful, beautiful ballerina whose dancing career has just been cut short thanks to her father's debt, and now she'll live her life as Niko's prisoner. She knows she'll probably die soon, and Niko makes no bones about letting her know. But, as they struggle to manage the feelings they're soon developing for each other, I was hurting for both of them because I knew one tiny thread was going to unravel and a storm of epic proportions was going to rain down on them. And when it did...sigh....I have loved this series since its inception with Crow starting it off, and as each was presented to us, I fell in love even more with this Irish/Russian meld of dark, raw violence and love. I did not think it would be possible for me to love one of Ashleigh's heroes more than Ronan and Alexei, as I mentioned before, but Niko really does take the cake. He's magnificent, this Russian thief, and he certainly stole my heart. I'm going to really miss this series if this is truly the end. But, it was a hell of a ride and I can't think of a more fitting conclusion to this series than Niko and Tanaka's darkly sweet story.Conor: 5 starsWhen Ivy goes to Sláinte seeking a job (and refuge from the Locos), Crow (Crow) gives the job of keeping an eye on her to Conor, the youngest recruit in their branch of the Irish syndicate. Conor is less than impressed by gaunt looking Ivy, not realizing (or caring when he does find out) that she looks that way by virtue of practically starving, rather than by being an addict. But then, then he finds out something about her that changes everything. He can't take out someone in her circumstances. So he gives her a proposition with two options. One option leads to her being a part of the Irish mafia that she wants no part of. The other? Well...you can imagine what the other option is.But what happens when Conor's proposition leads to feelings? Feelings neither expected or wanted.I so love the Boston Underworld series. It's one of my all time favorite series for its gritty, dark portrayal of the Irish mob and their Russian allies. I've fallen for each couple whose story plays out among the pages of this series and will sorely miss them, but I've gotta say that Conor and Ivy are the perfect couple to end this amazing series. Conor with his hardened heart falling for the deceptively strong Ivy and not knowing how to deal with his feelings, and becoming a full blown alpha raging the streets of Boston looking for his woman. Whew! Conor may be the youngest in the clan, but he's no baby, especially when his love is threatened.I will miss all my couples - Crow & Mack (Crow), Ronan & Sasha (Reaper), Alexei & Talia (Ghost), Rory & Scarlett (Saint), and Niko & Tanaka (Thief). But if the series had to end, I'd say Conor was the perfect story to go out with. It's just as dark and brutal as its predecessors, just as well-written, and has just an amazing a couple as Conor's brothers and their wives. Kudos to A. Zavarelli for giving The Boston Underworld a very fitting conclusion.

Boston Underworld The CollectionA.ZavarelliCrow – Book 1Crow, is yet another crazy mind bender bought to you by A Zavarelli. Her knack for whacked out characters blows my mind, and here is another for her collection. Crow is an underworld drama/ thriller with erotic undertones I guess I would say, but certainly not a book to be read on a lazy afternoon. This is a take all, including all of your time, emotions and attention.Mackenzie, is a bass ass fighter, bought up to be able to look after herself. When her daddy died she lived the hard life on the streets. Now she finds herself heading into Boston's underworld to find her best friend. When Talia went missing, Mack soon realised she couldn't rely on the police to find her. The Mafia and cartels are to big for them, but mad Mack won't be stopped by them.Heading in she knows she must find a man to take her in so in a fight to end all fights she knocks out one if their own and attracts Lachlan Crow. Lachlan is the man everyone looks up to, he is the leader of the McKenna syndicate and he is the one taken by Mackenzie butterfly Wilder. Soon after the fight, Mack is taken in litterally by Lachlan, and soon she discovers finding Talia may not be the only thing she gets out of the underworld.Very quickly Mack is thrown into a world way out if her depths, and falling for a kingpin of the underworld was also not on the agenda, but when a man like Lachlan Crow shows interest, you pay attention. He wants to take down smart ass pain Mack, but not with murder... Falling for crow was never in the plan, but when she starts to interfere in the running of things, her life becomes a problem that needs to be removed. Will she turn out like Talia, or will Lachlan go against his family for a woman he shouldn't love?Taken from both Mackenzie and Lachlan 's POV, we get a look into both of their perspectives of life, live and family. But for 2 pig headed hot heads, this will always end in gunfire. Just who makes it out is the question.Reaper – Book 2How does one review a book that has such a impact on life itself? Reaper is all kind of dark, violent, disturbing but really messes with your mind. Ashleigh Zavarelli is all kinds of weird and I absolutely love her for it. She makes you question everything you think you know and read... I can only imagine what her Google history must look like after writing Crow and Reaper! The master of mystery - Ronan Fitzgerald aka Reaper, had had the hardest of lives. As a child he was tortured beyond anything I could possibly imagine and now as an adult he is number 2 to Lachlan Crow in the mafia wars of Ireland's underground. He has no feelings and shows no interest in other people, except for Sasha. She and Ronan share a huge secret but what she doesn't know is Ronan is constantly watching her.Sasha, is pretty much over life itself, her mother is in death's door and she is buring more than a dancer at a strip club. a whore for men to use, and if she's smart she keeps her mouth shut about it. But for Sasha it is the Reaper who fills her days and nights. His attention, yet ignorance of her keeps her on edge.As the pair come together with a devistating secret they soon discover the need for each other. But with Ronan's past, Sasha is left feeling more and more last out. His constant use of her body then leaving without a word slowly breaks her down.So when they are both put in danger it is now Ronan must step up and devote himself to Sasha or prepare for her to leave him forever. This book must come with a warning or violence and pretty much hatred towards women, but it is amazingly written with loveable characters along with so many twists and turns every page.Ghost – Book 3A Zavarelli4.5 Underworld mafia starsAshley Zavarelli - what can I say, her writing never cease to amaze me. So dark and dangerous I find myself taking huge deep breathes to calm my rapid breathing. Ghost is book 3 in the Boston underworld series, and although each book is about its own characters, the history of the previous stories really put it all together. I always struggle with writing reviews when it comes to this series, as I’m a mafia virgin, I know nothing about it, the men and women who rule and the obvious family histories that clearly play a major role in everything about the book. For Talia , leaving Slainte with her apparent boyfriend was perfect, he would never hurt her and she would live a much better life than dancing for Mafia men. That is until she wakes up, tied to a bed where she us brutally raped and beaten after being sold to an arms dealer as a slave. Her life pretty much can't get much worse.... But when she is given to another man in payment for a late shipment her world will change again.Alexei Nikolaev has been sent to find and retrieve Talia, but what he finds is so much worse than he expected. Talia is bloodied and beaten but this should not affect him in anyway. He is part of Boston’s mafia group. As a Vory he is lives by their code. But for Talia, extracting her from Arman ‘s clutches should be enough. Alexei has his own demons and it will be Talia who “fixes” him. As perfectly said in the books blurb:“She thinks she has me fooled by her haunted eyes. What she can’t know is that I see her better than most. She wants to fly.But I’m going to clip her wings. And make her my wife.”When Alexei returns to Boston with Talia he is ridiculed by his fellow Vory, he should have the best bred wife , not a worthless whore. Talia struggles with everything, from being locked up, but free to roam his home, full meals and a housekeeper who you can only love. It us Magda who helps Talia with daily routine, but with bigger demons, she is hell bent on destroying herself with pain... whether it be a smashed mirror or a jump from a roof. She craves that pain to continue on with Alexei’s plan.As the pair give into the sex, there are feelings. Talia is petrified, Alexei is dangerous, like all the other mafia men and his hell bent target of having Talia pregnant brings more feelings . Through a dark, dangerous, demeaning run through life they both will overcome more barriers than any person should have to. 2 unlikely people, a world of struggle and an ending that will have you gasping for air.Do yourself a favour, and one click this book along with Crow and Reaper. You certainly will not be disappointed, I haven’t been. Saint – Book 4A Zavarelli4.5 these mafia man make me want to turn bad stars.Well I cant say this enough, if you are looking for sweet romance Saint and the rest of the Boston underworld series is definitely not for you, but if you love super strong leads, alpha males, some serious blood and gore and serious hot sex then get your ass into gear and read all of this series. I have been fortunate enough to read all of A’s work and just when I think she can’t get any darker she continues to blow me away. Each individual book in this series focus’ on one main male and female, Saint is Rory and Scarlett’s story. As with the previous stories, they both come from messed up backgrounds and have come to the underground for their own reasons, but that doesn’t stop the intertwining of their relationship. Each character is special for their own reason and A breaks them down perfectly. No hearts and flowers here – nope, unless you class the hearts they tear out or flowers that are stomped on in the process.Scarlett is the proverbial silver spoon child, she had everything, money, the best education, the popular boyfriend , the overly disapproving mother, but everything went to hell the night of initiation at college. Now she is a psycho of the underworld, and those at fault that fateful night are top of her hit list. She is no shrinking violet, Scarlett is a top notch evil player. She can carve, stab at shoot like any man. But what she discovers is that the one she needs to bring that group down is another man she should despise, but doesn’t. She is going to have to trust Rory aka Saint to help her bring the ultimate justice.Rory Brodrick has had his fair share of women, being a friend to the boss makes him easy pickings for the girls on parade, he sticks to blondes because there is only one brunette that has caught him up. After the previous meeting and apparent kidnapping, Rory can’t believe Scarlett is back, and needing his help. Help he is happy to give, but it comes with consequences, everything in Scarlett’s world is her rules.... Simple, but she has met her match with Saint. She needs his help, she will have to open up to him, making her vulnerable. Giving him everything will break down everything she has worked to keep behind the iron clad walls of her heart.Together they are explosive, both physically and sexually, but when her past comes back with his own demands Scarlett will have to tell Rory everything. Rory will discover the woman he thought he knew has a complete other dark side, not the princess he expects. And the hate Scarlett thought she had towards Saint turns to something completely opposite, she finds under the tough fighting exterior is a man whom loves her... but with a past like her will she ever be able to love him back. Not only together but with the mafia family, they will do everything in their power to break Scarlett from the evil bounds bought onto her by a past she can’t walk away from.Although very dark, and with a lot of violence, this story has some serious emotional components. Another fantastic read from A Zavarelli, as I had always expected.ThiefBook - 5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Oh. My. God. Every book I say, how does Ms Zavarelli continue with the screwed up mess that is the character's of the Boston Underworld. There has never been a sweet male in each of these books. They are Vory Brothers, and nothing will come between any of them. These stories are heart racing, gaspingly good. They are gory, rough, rude but unforgettable. In previous stories, we have seen how the women feel in the Vory men, most use and abuse women, they are just subjects, something to screw, but for the lucky ones they find their forever’s in a race of epic proportions. This time it's Nikolai Kozlov, to be centre attention. He's horribly brutal, but I couldn't help but fall for him. With debts owing taking a daughter should have been easy, but what Nikolai didn't expect was a badly broken young woman. Tanaka Valentini is gorgeous, has a smart mouth, and has no problem serving it up to Niko. With an abusive father comes an attitude to win or lose everything. She has come from a very tough life, so seeing Nik in his element, should scare her. It doesn't, it pushes her to get what she wants. These two will clash massively, but with that comes the realism that they need each other. It won't be sweet, it won't be pretty. It will keep you up at night, have you gasping, and routing for them. But rules are rules, and Vory – Well they make their own.... This is a must read series.ConorBoston – Book 6⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌟I’m not sure I’ve ever read a series like the Boston Underworld series. It is strange that a book can be so brutal yet so sweet. The men of the Mafia are family, and that means if you find a woman she becomes yours. In previous stories other men and found there crazy love , and this time it’s Conor’s turn. In the most roundabout of ways.Ivy is in the run from the Loco’s, another Underworld group, but when she shows up at Slainte looking for a job, Conor is taken by her at first sight. It doesn’t take long for him To lay claim to Ivy, nit knowing that she’s also has a son. Conor’s crazy world is about to be turned upside down. Marrying her, claiming her, keeping her safe, means feelings are books get forward. While foreign to Conor, Ivy has always wanted this… love, respect, safety…. She’ll get it but not before seeing things no one should have to live through. In he final book of this series, Ms Zavarelli pulls ever last string of awsomeness. If you haven’t read this series, start now. All bad boys, and good girls with huge attitudes create an amazing journey into the Boston Underworld.
