This book was ordered as a textbook for a global issues in health class for my daughter, but I enjoyed reading it as well. I knew a good bit of the information already, but this book added more scientific information and enlightened me as to the initial thoughts on these diseases as they emerged. I knew the end result already, but not the journey. For the most part it was well written and fairly concise. Some of the latter chapters rambled a bit and lost some organization, but overall a very good book.
Its an excellent medical material with an historical perpesctive, I like the tematics and narrative of each chapter explaining their origins in different times until nowadays.I would have liked to read some additional disease like scurvy (although I have not finished reading it) but this book is very complete.
Very good. The section on the Irish Famine focuses too much on the blight of the potato at the expense of the social changes that were a result. It seems to impute the cause of the Famine to the blight, rather than to the political ideologies of the British Empire.
Purchased for medical microbiology course. Absolutely the most interesting book I have ever purchased for a biology course. Each chapter is focused on a disease, including its history which captured my attention and kept me reading more than I needed to at times. Definitely recommend for pleasure/educational reasons.

Very Interesting book! it was used during my medical microbiology course in undergrad. Love the way the author gives so much indepth information about the history of these diseases. I still have this book and plan to use it in my public health practice.
